The Singer
A couple years ago, a dear friend sent me a well-loved and used copy of the second book in this trilogy, The Song. I was swept up in the poetic retelling of Acts, and have frequently returned to the book in the past few years. However, I never thought to pick up the rest of the books in the trilogy. For Christmas, some friends sent me the complete trilogy, and while I have yet to complete the third book, I can say with confidence that this trilogy will take its place among my favorite books. Miller’s simple prose retells the Greatest Story in a way that breaths new life and emotion into the story that for too many of us has become too familiar. You will find yourself swept up in renewed praise, awe, and love for Earthmaker. This is one book (you can buy the entire trilogy in one volume) that I highly recommend purchasing, as you will likely want to return to it again and again. Below is just a snippet from the first book.
In the beginning was the song of love.
Alone in empty nothingness and space
It sang itself through vaulted halls above
Reached gently out to touch the Father’s face.
And all the tracklessness where worlds would be
Cried “Father” through the aching void. Sound tore
The distant chasm, and eternity
Called back–“I love you Son–sing Troubador.”
His melody fell upward into joy
And climbed its way in spangled rhapsody.
Earthmaker’s infant stars adored his boy,
And blazed his name through every galaxy.
“Love,” sang the Spirit Son and mountains came.
More melody, and life began to grow.
He sang of light, and darkness fled in shame
Before a universe in embryo.
