About Me
In 2005, fresh out of college, I packed two seventy pound suitcases and headed to China for a one year teaching commitment. I had grand plans of returning to the States for a counseling degree after that year, joining my best friend in graduate school. Instead, I ended up staying in China for six years and getting a degree in Intercultural studies. Those years in China were incredibly transformative and deeply marked me. I do not know if my pilgrim’s path will lead back to that land, but for the time being I’ve returned to the States. Life is still a journey, with unexpected twists and turns. Join me as along the way I share glimpses of glory…and the mundane…through words and image.
The inspiration for the title “Life of a Pilgrim” comes from Brennan Manning’s book Ruthless Trust…
The way of trust is a movement into obscurity, into the undefined, into ambiguity, not into some predetermined, clearly delineated plan for the future. The next step discloses itself only out of a discernment of the Father acting in the desert of the present moment. The reality of naked trust is the life of a pilgrim who leaves what is nailed down, obvious, and secure, and walks into the unknown without any rational explanation to justify the decision or guarantee the future. Why? Because the Father has signaled the movement and offered it his presence and his promise.
…and from one of my favorite Psalms.
Blessed are those whose hearts are set on pilgrimage. As they pass through the Valley of Baka, they make it a place of springs…they go from strength to strength, till each appears before their king.
I would love to hear from you! If you have any questions, feel free to email me at katinchina@gmail.com.
Hi Katherine … Just found this site. Spent a few minutes reading all the older entries; they gave me a glimpse of your life. I also enjoy all your pictures from Flickr, especially those of Sam. Keep it up, otherwise, we will not know what’s going on there. We are not going to Thailand this time but hope to come for Sam’s birthday. Hope to see you then.

Hi Katherine,
I am so happy to hear from you! What a blessing as I have been praying that I could learn more about Susi’s past prior to AOW. I would love to hear anything you can tell me. When I have more time I am going to read up on your blog. Thank you again for connecting with us!
