Awed to Heaven, Rooted in Earth

Several years ago, Michael Card recommended this small book at a conference I attended. Awed to Heaven is a collection of prayers written by a longtime Old Testament professor. Each prayer contains the occasion on which it was first uttered and the scripture passage that inspired it. I have been greatly encouraged by this small book, as Brueggemann masterfully communicates with poignancy and clarity the muddled thoughts, cries and requests often found within my own heart. The title of the book reflects the paradox in which we live–longing for eternity, yet tied to the cares of and work in this world. This is one book I recommend purchasing and adding to your collection–it is one to be referenced continually and slowly digested, not a work to be read straight through.
