Sunday Snapshot: Picnic at the Park

What is one to do when move across the ocean is imminent? When the to do list stretches a mile long? When there is six years’ worth of things to be sorted and trashed and given away and packed away? When there are grades to calculate and papers to mark?

If one is wise, she guiltlessly leaves it all behind to head out on a picnic.

Sunshine, food, relaxation and laughter with some of my favorite people.

People who over the years have been family, and companions, and nurses, and coworkers, and dear friends.

People who it is quite hard to imagine not living life with anymore.

Not borrowing cups of sugar from.

Not laughing to the point of tears when an attempt at a new worship song ends in disaster.

Not watching milestones of firsts.

Not delighting in the rarity and deliciousness of tastes of home.

Not reliving (and mocking) each other’s best and worst moments. Like accidentally overthrowing a football…right into the middle of a pond (do you see it?).

Not hunting for caterpillars together.

Not capturing family moments.

And interruptions of family moments (thanks, Anthony).

Not laughing together at the craziness that is China.

Needless to say, I’ll be leaving a large part of my heart in China.
