Sunday Snapshot: Hello Again

This week.  This week started with the roaches.  And then it went down and up and around, and in comparison the roaches ended up being a relatively minor (and thankfully disappearing) blip…and that’s about all I’ll say.  Suffice it to say, while I love this place I’ve been called to, some weeks it’s hard.  Some weeks, I kind of wish He’d called somebody else.  The good news is, He always gives me reminders in those moments, days and weeks of exactly why  He brought me all the way over here.  And while those reminders don’t always negate the difficulties, they help bolster the strength to ride out the difficulties.

I returned to the orphanage again today.

Some were a bit apprehensive at first.

We had, in fact, been gone for quite some time (especially in the mind of a two or four year old).

And let’s be honest.  Foreigners?  We look a little weird.  And a little scary.

Some were new.

With tiny little toes.

And big wide eyes.

Some greeted us with a ready smile and a seeming hint of recognition.

Yep, that’s my boy Alex.  And oh my goodness does he still melt my heart.  Especially now that he can toddle over to me from across the room.  With a big grin on his face.  Be still my beating heart.

Some may have been shy at first, but a little bit of tickling.  And a little bit of lovin’.  And a little bit of goofiness.  And a bit of spinning around until the room is swayin’.  Well, we began to win over even the most wary.

Giggles appeared.

Dimples appeared.

And I knew.

Beyond a shadow of a doubt.

I was right where I was supposed to be.

And it was worth it.

  1. As an adoptive mom, I want to thank you for all your are doing to make a difference in their lives. Bless you. Bless you. Bless you.

  2. Goodness gracious. Such cuteness. What a blessing you are able to visit there freely and love on those babies!! You ARE where you are supposed to be… that is a beautiful thing!!
    🙂

  3. Amazing! I am so glad I found your blog! These children are so beautiful, thank you for the work you do.

  4. Looks like you are as lucky to have THEM…as they are to have YOU! Bless you.

  5. What beautiful children. I can honestly say, I wish they were all mine. What precious gems and how blessed you are to be able to hold those precious children!!!!

  6. Thank you. I am an adoptive mom (three so far, one coming home in December I hope) like Kim K and it means the world to me to know there are people like you lovin’ on babies in orphanages. I am also just a bit jealous. Every once in a while, my husband and I dream about leaving it all behind, packing up our kids, and heading to China where he can work or teach or whatever, while I go love on babies in an orphanage. Maybe we’d even foster too. So far He hasn’t opened that door. We’re waiting patiently for the right timing…

  7. Love that you are able to do this. A young couple loved on one of our kids before we came to get him and took pictures of him for us. Such precious moments they captured. Someday, there are some families who will so appreciate what you’ve done–even if you never meet–they will know that SOMEONE showed great love to their child.

And on a photography note, how do you get those awesome indoor shots with such great light?! I am dying to know… (insert whining and gnashing of teeth about my yellow-tinged indoor photos…urgh)
